The skin around the eyes, being the most delicate and thinnest tissue on the face, is where the skin's elasticity in the fat layer begins to decline first. This makes the aging of the eye area a primary concern. In particular, bulging under-eye fat can make one look older and even hollow. After the late 20s and into the 30s, the structure of the septum that encloses the under-eye fat weakens, causing the under-eye fat to bulge outwards and sag. The problem is not just the protruding under-eye fat, but also the dark, hollow areas that appear as the fat sags, often accompanied by dull dark circles.

To improve these overall signs of under-eye aging, many people look into under-eye sagging surgery.

Lower blepharoplasty, or under-eye sagging surgery, involves making a minimal incision along the line from below the eyelashes to the outer corner of the eye to remove and reposition bulging fat. An appropriate amount of sagging skin is also excised to simultaneously improve skin wrinkles. This is because the causes and surgical methods for under-eye aging are not all the same. Lower blepharoplasty requires an incision to evenly reposition the skin tissue and fat. For those concerned about scars, we naturally design the incision along the lower lash line and minimize scarring with delicate excision and precise suturing techniques.

Lower blepharoplasty takes about 30 minutes to 1 hour, allows for same-day discharge, and involves stitch removal after 5-7 days. If you choose a lower blepharoplasty clinic based solely on low cost, you may encounter side effects. Excessive muscle excision or extending the incision line medially during lower blepharoplasty can increase the risk of nerve damage, potentially leading to ectropion (the turning out of the eyelid).

If under-eye sagging is severe and difficult to improve with lower blepharoplasty alone, or if you wish to prevent side effects like ectropion after lower blepharoplasty, combining it with lateral canthopexy can reduce the risk of ectropion and effectively resolve severe under-eye sagging that lower blepharoplasty alone cannot address.
